You can see the edge of the Dark Zone coming, on foot and on wings, and the strip above the hotbar says how far it is and which way.
Red boundaries show themselves when you come near; everything else waits for the border key. A toll road now has its own colour.
The map is drawn a block a pixel in the colours of the blocks themselves, with relief and water you can see into; it moves when you drag it, a right click asks what can be done there, and it zooms out much further.
The full list of changes
01Boundaries in the world
Flying at the Dark Zone used to show nothing at all: the wall went out the moment your feet left the ground. The edge now stands as a band at your own height along its whole length, and it appears as far ahead as you will be in five seconds.
Nothing turns on by itself except what is red - ground closed to you, and the edge of the Dark Zone - and your own way out of a siege. Your own ground, roads and other people's open fields are shown when you press the border key.
A road that will charge you is indigo on the wall, on the strip and on the map. It was the same colour as a free road on the wall, and gold on the map, which on that map means a debt.
A holding is the whole column, sky included. Flying over closed ground on the way somewhere is still free; hovering or circling over it is a visit, the strip says so while you are overhead, and the red edge stands at your own height while you fly.
02The strip above the hotbar
A warning says how many metres and which way, with an arrow relative to where you are looking, and it stays up while you are heading towards the thing it warns about. It used to fold after four seconds, which on foot was before you arrived.
Warnings no longer flicker as you walk along a border or between two cities, and the bell rings once for walking onto closed ground rather than at every step along its edge.
The worst thing is always first, and each fact is written in its own colour.
03The map
It is drawn a block a pixel from what each block actually looks like, tinted by its biome, lit from the north-west, with water you can see the bottom through - the way the popular map mods draw it. What you walked before is kept and sharpens as you walk past it again.
Drag with the left button to move the map. A click still picks a chunk. Hold Shift and drag to select a rectangle.
Right-click anywhere for what can be done there: claim, sell, set a toll, close a border, buy, mark, centre, copy the coordinates. Inside a selection it is about the selection.
Zoom from four pixels a block to a quarter of a pixel a chunk. Far out the map draws from a picture made for that distance, so it costs no more than it did; a click there brings the ground closer.
The map no longer offers to claim ground in the Dark Zone, which the server has always refused.
You can claim up to sixteen chunks from where you stand, where it was six, and a Shift-drag stays inside that square instead of running off it. Your marks are drawn as coloured banners with their initial, and your own arrow is bigger.
